East Kew Uniting Church
The Time after Epiphany
“The season invites the church to cross over old boundaries
to bring the gospel of reconciliation and understanding
to alienated peoples, foster spiritual growth, and remind
baptised people of their role as Jesus’ disciples.” (Olsen)
The word Epiphany comes from a Greek word meaning “manifestation or
appearance,” and in church history this world has become closely associated
with the revelation of Jesus in connection with the visit of the Magi. The season focuses on the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus. It is a season of great joy
and light and some key themes and words for our reflection during this time
include; light, life, appearing, calling, mission, planting.
O God our Creator,
in you alone are the riches of life.
We come from the East and we come from the West,
knowing we follow, on our different roads,
the same star to the same place.
May we share what we know of its light,
learn from each other the way to the stable,
worship you, our only wealth,
and serve the world with gospel gold.
We make our prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord. AMEN.
